Circus art holds a special place in the heart of each of us. It is a return to childhood where dreams are allowed, even the wildest. A very significant time in our life in which anything can happen, like in the circus arts world. Even adults with high responsibilities should not refuse an instant of magic at the Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard in Moscow.
Contrary to popular belief, circus art has appeared relatively recently. The Nikulin Circus was built in 1880 to accommodate the circus collective led by Albert Salamansky. The first performance took place in an incredible atmosphere! The audience falling madly in love with the tightrope walker Henrietta, the horse riders, the Pascal brothers and many other artists present that night.
At various times, famous Russian circus artists performed on Tsvetnoy Boulevard:
- Anatoly and Vladimir Durov
- Vitaliy Lazarenko,
- Vasiliy Sobolevsky,
- Herbert Cooke,
- Marta Sur,
- Okeanos acrobats ,
- Koch sisters,
- Oleg Popov,
- Yuri Kotov,
- Boris Romanov,
- Leonid Kukso,
- and many others.
Although the Nikulin Circus focused mainly on horse riding for many years, the true legends of Tsvetnoy Boulevard remain undeniably the clowns Yuri Nikulin and Mikhail Sheydin.
Each of their performances was sold-out almost instantaneously, regardless of the evening program. In 1983, with a now international reputation, Yuri Nikulin took over the full management of the circus to enhance its recognition.
